Anti-Bullying Week

It’s Anti-Bullying week! Whilst 2020 has brought all sorts of unexpected turns, it is great to see that schools throughout the UK are still participating in anti-bullying week.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, auntie or uncle, we all want children to be happy and feel safe against bullying – particularly if we have experienced bullying ourselves. This is why at Guardian Law we are united against bullying and support anti-bullying week which helps schools keep children safe.

Unfortunately, some of us know all too well that the risk of being bullied does not stop once you have finished school, it can also be experienced in the workplace. Results from a UNISON survey on bullying found that over 50% of workers had been bullied or witnessed a form of bullying in the workplace in a 6-month period.

Despite an increasing number of people working from home, bullying still remains a significant issue as it can take many forms which include not only physical abuse but colleagues:

  • Constantly undermining you;
  • Making jokes about you/humiliating you;
  • Setting you up to fail;
  • Making you feel uncomfortable for example on Zoom calls;
  • Blocking promotions; or
  • Making unwanted personal remarks.

This type of behaviour can seriously effect employees’ mental health and also their work performance. It is therefore extremely important that employees understand the serious implications of bullying.

As an employer, it is important to encourage employees to report any signs of bullying and to take any allegations seriously.

If you need support or advice on dealing with allegations of bullying, please contact support@guardianlaw.co.uk or call us on 0115 870 0150.
