Breaking news: Statutory sick pay

Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer has published his budget today at lunchtime.

Some good news for employers which they may welcome – the government will reimburse small employers (less than 250 employees) any statutory sick pay they pay to their employees for the first 14 days that they are off sick.

The current rate of SSP is £94.25 but this will rise to £95.85 from the 6th April 2020.

The Chancellor has estimated that this will cost up to £2billion but it will help 2 million businesses in the UK and is probably a temporary measure to help businesses cope with the coronavirus outbreak.
